Vinland Saga creator Makoto Yukimura has confirmed that a third season of the anime is not currently in progress. He answered a fan on X and said there was no good news to share about a follow-up to MAPPA’s second season.
The message comes more than three years after season two aired. Yukimura also apologized to fans, making it clear that there is no active project for season 3 right now.
That does not mean a new season will never happen, but there is no sign of one at the moment. MAPPA is busy with other anime projects, including Chainsaw Man: Assassins Arc and season 4 of Jujutsu Kaisen, along with several new series scheduled for 2027.
Vinland Saga’s manga wrapped in mid-2025 after 20 years, and season two was the third most-watched anime on Netflix from January to June 2023. Even so, anime-only fans may have a long wait before Thorfinn’s story continues, if it does at all.
